BIO

Michael Bush has been surrounded by the game of basketball for over 20 years. He has experienced it in all aspects, not only through playing himself, but through mentoring, individual training, and coaching as well. His love for the game and his will to improve every player as well as his commitment to perfect the team dynamic is what drives his success. In his years of experience, he has played in the PAC 10 Division Conference at Washington State University, played professionally in Luxemburg, and played for the ABA in Bellingham, WA. He now has taken his realm of knowledge to a new arena with head coaching Kirkland Junior High School’s Varsity Basketball team.

Michael’s experience is widely diverse. Growing up in Riverside, CA throughout his childhood years, he then received a scholarship at Rubidoux High School in Mercerburg, Pennsylvania. Following his 2 years there, he then moved on to Kent, Washington and attended Kent-Meridian High School. His college career was lived out at Washington State University where he played both basketball and football. He was one of the first athletes to participate and earn Pacific 10 honors in both of those sports. Michael started 77 of 84 games at Washington State. In 1998-1999, he was awarded the Jack Friel Defense Award. He currently still holds proudly WSU records:

Football

3) Started in all 25 career games
4) Caught at least 1 pass in every game

Upon ending college, Michael played professional football in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers and then played Arena Football for the Detroit Fury. Deciding to revisit his basketball roots, Michael then played professional basketball overseas for the Luxemberg Walferdange. He then took his basketball knowledge on to play for the semi-pro team, the Bellingham Slam, part of the ABA. Throughout the years, Michael has broadened his horizon from not only being the athlete but to taking it down a new path of now being the leadership role, the mentor, the coach. He has participated in coaching several basketball camps, including organizations at Western Washington University as well as the Seattle Supersonics and the San Antonio Spurs. Michael participated in coaching activities in Luxemburg as well, along with helping young athletes in the International School there. He also has headed up individual performance and skills training sessions. In 2006-2007, he assistant coached Kirkland Junior High School’s Varity and Junior Varsity Basketball teams and was the head coach of the Track and Field Team. In 2007, he assistant coached Kirkland Junior High’s football team. Michael now resides in Renton, WA with his girlfriend and 4 year old daughter.

Vanessa McClendon

SBBA is proud to have the assistance of such an experienced and knowledgeable individual as Vanessa. Her love for the game and attention to details are a huge asset to the SBBA team. She shows a willingness to perfect our system and lead the players to be the best they can be at all times. We expect Vanessa to be exactly what SBBA is striving to be to our young players.

Vanessa McClendon has been associated with the game of basketball for over 20 years. She brings her experiences, her love for the game, and her passion to pass on and assist in the growth and development of young student athletes today. In her 20 years she has played professionally, trained world-wide and coached European High School Teams.

Experience

Vanessa’s experience is well rounded. Grew up a military brat and traveled all over the United States and Asia as a youngster, spent her High School Years in Antioch, California. Career highlighted by earning Second-Team all-state honors from California Basketball Magazine as well as East Bay player of the year by the East Bay Prep Writers Association. Averaged 19.9 points, 8.4 steals and 4.3 assists a game her final year. Eclipsing state’s single- season steals standard (252) in addition to finishing second on career chart (674). Paced team to 26-6 record and Division I runner-up in the Northern California championships, netting 21 points in the title game. She received dozens of offers from D1 schools, including University of Washington and Washington State. But ended up attending University of Oregon (Ducks 1989-1992). University of Oregon’s’ first “true point guard” in three seasons. Started as a freshman, opened the first 23 games of initial collegiate season to become the Ducks first player to land Pac-10 all-freshman honors since 1987. The squad’s most valuable newcomer assumed quarterback role by accumulating most steals (52) in three years and finishing second on the team in assists (89). Oregon’s third leading scorer, averaging 16.2 points per game during the conference seasons. In addition to scoring in double figures during conference play, scored a collegiate high against Washington (20). Established school record for three-point attempted in one game (10). After her collegiate years, she had the opportunity to play professionally in Barcelona, Spain; Tasmania, Australia; and several teams in Germany. She developed chronic knee problems over the years, however, assisted in player development for Portland Fire (ABL league) as a practice player and attended several WNBA training camps. Although her professional pursuit was prior to the thriving of the WNBA, her love for the game has never been stronger. Vanessa resides in Puyallup, Washington State with husband of 14 years, Gerald, and 18 month old son, Marcus.
